Instructions

  • Cook the rice. Cook time will vary based on the rice you're using - follow the instructions. Once rice is cooked, remove from heat and set aside. Fluff with a fork, and keep covered with a lid to prevent drying.
  • Make the stir fry sauce. Combine all the ingredients for the stir fry in a medium bowl. Whisk until all the brown sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
  • Heat the 4 tbsp of olive oil in a wok. Add the broccoli and toss until the broccoli is fully coated in the olive oil. Cover and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the broccoli is softened a bit. If you like your broccoli a bit crisper, leave the cover off. Once cooked, transfer to a bowl and cover.
  • Heat the remaining olive oil in the same wok. When heated, add the strips of flank and season with salt & pepper (work in batches if you need to). Cook until meat is slightly browned.
  • Add all the cooked steak to the wok and add in your stir fry sauce. Bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, drop the heat to a simmer and add your cooked broccoli. Toss the broccoli in the wok for about a minute until it's fully coated with the sauce.
  • Turn off the burner and add the cooked rice to the wok. Mix everything together thoroughly.
  • Let the stir fry sit with the burner off for about 2-3 minutes, mixing everything occasionally. This will allow the sauce to thicken a bit.
  • Serve hot and top with the sesame seeds.

Notes

  1. One serving size = about a cup of stir fry.
  2. Freeze the steak before slicing so it's easy to get it thinly sliced.  DON'T FORGET TO CUT AGAINST THE GRAIN.
